The European Union (EU) recently announced its ambitious plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. This is part of the EU's strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and is in line with the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. To achieve this, the EU is undergoing an energy transition, which involves moving from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.

The energy transition is a complex process that requires the integration of various technological, economic, and societal factors. One of the critical components of the energy transition is the deployment of renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, hydropower, and geothermal energy. These sources are becoming increasingly cost-competitive and have the potential to provide a significant share of the EU's energy mix.

Another important aspect of the energy transition is improving energy efficiency. This improvement can be achieved through various measures, such as improving the energy efficiency of buildings, increasing the energy efficiency of industrial processes, and promoting the use of energy-efficient appliances.

At the same time, higher energy resources coming from renewables demands large infrastructure expenditures, such as new renewable energy facilities, energy storage, and smart grids.The energy distribution paradigm must advance from centralized fossil fuel generators to a distributed network coordinated by improved orchestration architectures capable of handling data in real time from both the generating and consumption sides.

The energy transition is a key opportunity for the EU to exhibit leadership in the battle against climate change, as well as to establish new models of sustainable growth in the industrial sector and natural resource management.Yet, achieving the targets in such a short time would necessitate significant efforts and expenditures on the part of both communities and governments.
